Kobarweng or Where is your Helicopter?

The video picks up the story of the first encounter of a remote village in the highlands of New Guinea with the rest of the world. In June 1959, a scientific crew, including anthropologists, had actually jumped out of helicopters with parachutes. This story is mainly told by a local who reclaims the memory of a colonial past. By reversing the roles of observer and observed, anthropology, rather than the "other," becomes an exotic object of investigation and exploration.
