Roland Boden's "real substitutions" convey sensitivities of a political dimension. Through photo retouching and photomontage, classical tools of critical pictorial representations, he transformed images of house facades in Tornitz into pictures of fortress-like protective structures. Shrunk almost to the size of a property developer signs, the images suggest new buildings in planning, which are adapted to the local building structure according to the development plan. Their architectures develop private prisons out of a manic need for protection and document precisely in the liberating expanse of the Elbe-Saale landscape the absurd character of the new building with its military-like need for defense.
