Like the pied piper of Hamelin, the Slovak artist Jaroslav Kysa walks through Oxford Street, the most well known and lively shopping street in London, swarming with tourists and shopping fanatics fulfilling their need to consume. In contrast to the famous fable from the 13th century, the artist is not pursuing rodents but rather an ever burgeoning flock of pigeons. By means of targeted dissemination of birdfeed Kysa finally creates a living pigeon barrier in front of the entrance to the huge “Primark” department store. The “areal rats” bar the entrance to the store hindering the stream of consumers.
